On the Journey - March 2022

Hello Fellow Journeyers,

March is here and thus signifies the end of the first quarter of 2022; how time flies. But looking at the second quarter in this year of twos comes a slew of books I'm eager to get into.

What I'm currently reading:

What I think so far:

Waylander is the first of David Gemmell's books I'm going to read, and while I skipped Legend (which many would frown upon), I am excited to say that a story about a ruthless assassin is much more up my alley than a grizzled axe-wielding hero. Waylander is about an unlikely hero, doing gray things, but getting the job done in the end, and maybe finding a little redemption along the way.

A Chorus of Fire is a sequel that I was excited to read after The Bard's Blade. While I'm almost done with this one, it's been a treat to be back in the world of Lamoria and everything going on with Lem and Mariyah. A decidedly darker tones hits Chorus of Fire with grim truths and dark tasks, but the story is still a comfort read mostly.

What's up next:

Fire of the Forebears is a new book by L.A. Buck, who I read the prequel novella Portrait of a King shortly before posting this review. The novella reminded me of my childhood video game favorite Fable and I've been looking for something that encompasses happier stories that you can get behind with deeper values present. It boasts ideas of classic fantasy, with modern storytelling, and if the novella showcases anything, it's that there is promise with this author. And that cover is just fantastic!

Song of Echoes is said to be written in the same vein as Lord of the Rings. While nearly everything gets compared to Lord of the Rings, I still think this one could show promise in its similarities. R. E. Palmer's first novel follows two protagonists as they traverse the world and go on a quest.

What I'm most looking forward to reading:

Voice of War is Zack Argyle's first book he's written and won the 2020 Indie Fantasy Book Award. I've heard it is a simple book that discusses the fundamentals of parenting in a fun and inventive way so I am excited to see how it matches up to the real thing (being a parent of 1yo twins myself).

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for future updates and reviews!
